This page is for students. It explains what information Revise Computing uses, why, and how we look after it. The full notice for parents, teachers and schools is at /privacy-notice.
If you create an account we use your email address and limited profile information, such as your name.
When you use the quizzes we save your answers, scores, self-assessment and progress. If a question lets you draw, we also save that drawing. If you are in a class we also keep class and assignment information, including teacher marks and comments.
We don't ask you to tell us things like your health, religion or ethnicity when you normally use Revise Computing.
Some questions let you type your own answer. This means you could type personal or sensitive information, even when it isn't part of the question. We have safeguards to help us deal with concerning information if this happens. You can read more about this below under If an answer looks concerning.
So you can log in, save your work, see your progress, and so your teacher can set and mark work if you are in a class. We also use information to keep the site working and to help keep people safe.
If you belong to a class on Revise Computing, authorised teachers for that class can see information about your class work. This can include your answers, scores, progress, teacher marks and feedback. If a written answer or drawing is flagged as potentially concerning, those teachers may also review that concern inside Revise Computing.
If you use Revise Computing independently and are not a member of a school class on the service, a teacher at your school does not automatically get access to your work.
A computer may check written answers, and drawings you submit, for certain kinds of worrying language or content. If it flags an answer, a teacher at your school or someone at ProgressBytes can review it inside Revise Computing. The computer does not decide that you are at risk, and it cannot catch every concern.
Alert emails do not include your answer, your name, your email address or your school name. They only have limited details so someone can find the record inside Revise Computing and look at it there.
If you use Revise Computing through a school and there is a safeguarding concern, appropriate staff at your school may review it and may be told so they can help.
If you use Revise Computing independently, there may not be a school contact available through your account.
We use other companies to run the service, such as hosting, email and payments. The main database is in the UK. Some of those companies may process information outside the UK. They are only used to operate and protect the service, not to sell your data.
We use signed-in accounts, access controls and encrypted connections. No website can promise to be perfectly safe, so look after your password.
You have rights over your personal information. For example, you can ask to see information we hold about you, ask us to correct information that is wrong, or ask us to delete information in some circumstances.
Other privacy rights may also apply depending on how your information is being used. You can contact us if you have a question about your information or want to use one of your rights.
If your school uses Revise Computing to manage your classes or assignments, you or your parent may sometimes need to make the request through your school. We will help the school where required.
Email support@revisecomputing.co.uk about privacy. If you use Revise Computing through school, you can also speak to your teacher or school about how your information is used.
If you're worried about how your personal information is being used, you can talk to us, your parent or carer, or your school. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
